Removing Invasive Buckthorn Project
If you would like more information about invasive buckthorn in Michigan click here.
Beginning in April 2021 we have been making a concerted effort to remove the many highly invasive buckthorn trees from our Commons.
We have cut down over 800 large buckthorns. We will continue to address the smaller saplings and seedlings along the creek, and begin to attack the larger ones in the many thickets in the Commons. We will try to cut down as many as possible before they flower/seed.
Many thanks to the hardy volunteers who have put in so much of their time and effort identifying, cutting, hauling and chipping: Arben Billusha - Keith Harfield - Jason Harris - Brian Holley - Mike Luibrand - Mike McCarty - Monica Parrish - Anne Stibich - Paul Stibich. Special thanks to Madison Harris for picking up sticks (and golf balls) and Suki for chasing off the geese!
Thank so much to our neighbor and Rainbow Tree Service owner Denny Minando and his crew for chipping all those trees!
